How Smiling Can Make You Successful

Happy Couple Smiling

Have you wondered why successful people are always smiling?

Smiling has a contagious and influential effect on others. It always has, and it always will.

Have you noticed when you make eye contact with somebody and they smile at you, you tend to smile back? Everybody does it.

But why?

Smiles Give Information

There is far more information about those who smile, than those who frown. People who tend to smile more often are happier, more confident, have more friends, and have better relationships. They manage others better, they perform better at their job, and raise happier children.

That is why encouragement with a smile is a way better form of teaching than punishment.

Think about it…

When your spouse or sibling has a smile when they tell you to do something, you will most likely do it with joy. On the other hand, when somebody has a frown when they ask you to do something, you either don’t want to do it or you do it with a sour face. This creates the feeling of being bossed around, and told what to do.

That is one of the benefits of smiling!

Here is a personal story of mine:

Three years ago, while attending Texas A&M University, I was very dedicated to my studies. Being a former collegiate swimmer and swim coach, I was very much into health and fitness. Because I was so focused on my studies and getting good grades, my fitness slipped. I added weight. I lost my abs. I became “skinny-fat.” (Here’s how I fixed that)

In all honesty, I became depressed and embarrassed about who I had become. I lost my self-confidence. I lost my smile.

Many of my friends could tell that I was not myself, and that I needed help. So what did I do?

How smiling made me successful
Smiling Made Me Successful

I changed my thoughts. I began to think more positively and smiled at every little thing that brought me joy. And what happened?

Everybody started admiring me. I acquired more friendships. I attracted more girls. People wanted to be around me simply because I was smiling more. It made them feel better about themselves.

Have you ever heard the phrase, “If you surround yourself with successful people, you will become successful.”

The moral of the story is, if you smile and hold yourself up more (even if you’re faking it) people will notice, and you will find yourself with more friends, better relationships, and a happier life.

How To Find Happiness

Everybody in the world is looking for that one thing that makes them happy. But what is it? Happiness is not dependent on external factors, but internal factors.

Abraham Lincoln stated,

Most people are just as happy as they make up their minds to be.

I love this quote because it illustrates that your happiness is determined by your internal thoughts. If you decide to be upset or angry, then you will be. If you decide to smile and be happy, then you will be.

If you want true happiness, smile more.

The Power Of A Smile

A smile has the power to brighten the lives of everybody that sees it!

When you look into a crowd and see one hundred people frowning, looking down, or slouching, your smile is like a ray of sunshine that makes everybody look up and smile for themselves. Especially those who are stressed from their job, kids, money situation, parents, school, and so on.

Your smile helps them realize, that this world isn’t so bad. There is still joy in every little thing that you encounter on a day to day basis.

Take the DMV for example…

When one is called up to the counter after waiting in line for two hours, you do not necessarily want to be there anymore. You are annoyed and ready to leave. Your experience does not get any better if the lady behind the counter is frowning and slouching over. On the other hand, when she greets you with a smile and a “how are you doing today,” most will smile back and reply “good, how are you?”

Instantly that two hour wait wasn’t so bad after all.

There you have it. Smiling makes you successful. Smiling keeps you happy, confident, and attractive. Smiling brings successful people into your life. And when you surround yourself with successful people, what happens?

You become successful!

Smiling helped me. And it will help you too 🙂
